The CrossBow Project delivered it’s Phase 1 bits into OpenSolaris yesterday. This brings advanced networking capabilities to a general purpose OS. It brings the ability to virtualize the networking stack and perform flow control on network packet streams. In addition the ability to dynamically switch packet processing from interrupt to polling mode and utilize NIC hardware capabilities make for high performance and scalability in processing packets. Read more about the CrossBow stuff on the project website. This is truely a great technology to make it’s way into OpenSolaris
Here is the announcement from Sunay Tripathi on crossbow-discuss list and the putback notification.
